Interviews
While many Dallas recognize the (C.H.I.P) trainees while
working to clean more than 20miles of Dallas streets in
our Community Improvement Project, a less visible
component of (C.H.I.P) is the Career Development taking
place at our Dallas facilities. The first step that our
trainees take toward self-sufficiency, but permanent
employment, independent living, and long-lasting sobriety
are their ultimate goals.
With the help of volunteers, The (C.H.I.P) helps conducts
Company Interview Nights that serve as "dress rehearsals"
for the actual interviews trainees will experience on
their search for full-time employment. We coach each
individual trainee on how to present himself / herself in
an interview, dress professionally, and answer often
difficult questions about work history.
After conducting the Company interviews, volunteers and
trainees share dinner and refreshments prepared from
scratch by our Culinary Arts Program. The evening is an
incredibly rewarding and useful experience for both the
trainee and the volunteer.
Tutoring
Our Education and Vocational Training Department offers
Literacy and GED courses to trainees of (C.H.I.P) job
programs. The courses help individuals improve their
reading comprehension, writing, and math skills (basic
multiplication to algebra) in order to increase their
workplace marketability. Classes are taught by experienced
adult education teachers and are held Monday through
Thursday nights from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
Mentoring
The Leadership Company is a mentoring/learning-service
project which unites men and women from the greater
metropolitan area with (C.H.I.P) in activities and
discussions that empower and engage them and the world
around them. The Leadership Company aims to be a positive
social support network and increase our clients'
employability and sense of self-worth by developing
trusting relationships that nurture positive decisions and
self-discovery through active participation in service
experiences.
Reentry: From that to this, a panel discussion and forum
on reentering society after incarceration. Under the
leadership of (C.H.I.P) Criminal Justice Department, the
Leadership Alliance continues to build relationships and
opportunities that afford (C.H.I.P) clients opportunities
to display and enhance their skills, giving them both a
sense of accomplishment and proof that they possess the
ability to positively contribute to greater society.
